The Random game generator - Nintendo 64 version

Happy weekend gamers. I thoroughly enjoyed my delve into the archives last blog where we looked at Indiana Jones on the Amiga/Atari from the early 90's, very early in fact. Since then i have started a full play through to play it once again from start to finish. This week venture has fast forwarded us in time, not by much but still within the realms of nostalgia gaming and definitely retro. Again using the random game generator website, Nintendo 64 and adventure were punched in and a total of 8 games were up for discussion. We had a few to choose from, some perhaps a bit too easy (Goldeneye, Zelda Majora's mask, Wave race 64, 1080 snowboarding and Starfox) all on their day worthy of discussion that's for sure and to be honest Goldeneye would perhaps be a 2 part offering such is the respect i hold for it, definitely a discussion for another day. There was one game that stood out for me this time, mainly because most will know it but may have forgotten about it really, that ...

The Random game generator

For someone who had had the pleasure of gaming for more years than id care to admit, you get to playing a fair share of games across many platforms, so much so if this was a paying job i could sit and type reviews for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, but its not a paying job, its passion, its history, its nostalgia, my memories, our memories as gamers, a loading screen, intro music, that first glimpse of those 8/16 bit graphics and so on. I have recently stumbled across a very random website whereby i can type in a console/computer, even a genre of game and as many game as i want numerically and hit generate it boom up pops a list, and i thought to myself, this is good, this is great in fact, there are probably hundred of games I've completely forgotten about, i wonder if this is a way to delve into this gamers archive and see what initial memories are pulled out from it, review if from recollection as well as going back and having a go again to see how it measures up to those memories...

A bit late to the party but what the hey!

So its been a minute. I sort of fell of the planet for a while, well in a writing sense that is, my bad, life has a way of doing that, i feel, since my last article the world has certainly changed, we survived through a pandemic, unfortunately there are other evils in the world with wars being waged which is sad. If anyone from these parts of our planet reads my heart goes out to you and i hope peace returns for you sometime in the immediate future. So yeah a hiatus came into play, i hit pause and lost the remote to press play again. I am a bit older, not so sure wiser, but I'm here and want to write again and i hope i can ask some to join me. My blogs to which there are 2 focus on 1. retro gaming (sometimes current) and my second blog titled Pint Size Pizza which focuses on craft beers and pizza, more to the point homemade (i spent my lockdown becoming a self proclaimed aficionado in both, i like to think you could bundle all 3 topics up and find something you like from any of tha...

Dude a blue shell wtf!!

As a family man getting time to just sit uninterrupted to write is rare so definitely golden time, thankfully i have that right at this moment, coffee is brewed and poured, dog is crashed out next to me on the sofa, laptop out, hell there's football/soccer back on the TV why not, i am taking full advantage of this because who knows when i will get access to this sort of zen again, not a got anytime soon would be the answer. I hope anyone who read our last piece on the ranking of GTA titles enjoyed, it seemed to make some waves over on instagram accumulating a good amount of likes 450 roughly, i would strongly recommend using the instagram promotion tool to any bloggers trying to grow a brand or channel. I have also set up the ragequitretro facebook page but am having some issues creating a link button, I think facebook has found something offensive (possibly the word rage perhaps) hopefully it gets the ok, the page will have links to the blogs eventually along with nostalgia...

will the last one leaving Los Santos please turn off the lights!

Seems some what strange to include up to date content in a blog that look at the past, but hey I am a modern day gamer who just so happens to have a passion for the retro.  E3 came and went. all in all the event was a success, despite the Sony no show, we were treated to an appearance from the man himself Keanu via what I think is going to be the game of the year 2020 in Cyberpunk, and well the less said about Dr Disrespects IRL toilet antics the better (never trusted anyone who wears sunglasses indoors) hopefully this was an error of judgement on his part and he's back doing what he does best soon. Now the theme is set of more modern stuff today I want to talk about good old Los Santos, Rockstar and GTA 5, damn game has been out that long there is a case for it almost being retro. I will admit in its day absolutely awesome and I look forward to spending my retirement in 30 years time when GTA 6 finally gets released. I took some time the other day and thought "ok lets...

Top 10 PS2 games part 2

Hope you all had a productive weekend filled with plenty of gaming retro or current based. Leading on from the last piece on our part 1 of PS2 titles it won't come as a surprise that we are doing part 2 today. The titles in part 1 may not have been to everyone's tastes  and that's cool, we all have entirety different opinions and more importantly memories of past titles. GTA Vice City - Rockstar 2002 Swiftly on to the main content. I want to start the piece with a bang, a 1980's shoulder pad wearing bang. Rockstar GTA Vice City. Rockstar had to bring something special to the party following the huge success of GTA III and for me boy did they deliver. Vice city to this day is probably pound for pound Rockstars best GTA title, why you ask, they took what they learned and developed in III and turbo charged it 80's style. Main cover art work Very colourful strip The game had a stellar host of Hollywood names carrying out voice over work to this day I d...

Top 10 PS2 games - Part 1

Getting some free time to sit down and write is priceless when you have a young family, so having some time off from work and the kids at school means i can sit and game or even better research some ideas to blog, or both, today I am switching my time between writing this piece and getting stuck into more Mafia III, very much enjoying my time as Lincoln Clay. Today we are following on from something i touched on at the end of the last article, and that is top 10's, PS2 in particular, the top 10 series will hopefully prove both easy reading but also stir up nostalgia and debate, i doubt very much you would find one 10 ten then same , we all have games that resonate with us differently and games that were just that good its impossible to ignore them. I recently found a you tube channel called MetalJesusRocks, does what it says on the tin, retro gamer who has passion for games and mental who boasts a Jesus like head of hair. Good channel if you like retro gaming, a strong thum...

Football Sims we loved and some that we didnt

New week new blog, very much enjoying writing, feel I'm improving hopefully those who read my blogs think the same, reader numbers appear ok (to be honest i have no idea what the marker is for defining a successful blog) so i will continue blissfully ignorant, having previously wrote a blog to market my twitch channel on wordpress a few years ago i would say that numbers for this blog are indeed better. I thought today i would take a look at Football sim titles from the past and see if we could unearth some gems to discuss. In today's current gen era we have pretty much one title that has a tight grip around the market, 2 titles if you are feeling generous, we have the Fifa franchise from EA Sports and Pro Evolution Soccer from Konami, there was a time that the question 'are you Fifa or Pro Evo' was a important question, say the wrong one and that could be the end of any budding friendship, is up there with are you team Rick or Team Negan. Me i have switched between bo...

A cult classic reboot or leave it alone?

I hope the weekend has been a good one for you all. Productive and full or hearty gaming, me I've logged some hours on one of the free offerings from the PlayStation's PS plus, Mafia III. To my shame I failed to pick this up when it was released, being the cheapskate I decided to bide my time until it dropped in price and then hey presto there it was free to download, result. Any older gamer or one with a family will understand that sometimes we just can justify buying every new title out, family, kids etc can dictate a lot of our finances. Strong game so far. Good solid story of double cross/revenge seeking retribution, and our main protagonist is an absolute unit. Definitely check it out if you were like me and haven't played it. Anyways on with our main piece, cult classics and one in particular. Like movies from the past games and gaming franchises in general are now privy to the reboot magic, always a gamble if the game was a roaring success in its heyday, it c...

Retro racers that put the genre where it is now

Its the weekend and this guy just feels like writing, as a family man there was plenty to be done around the house but it was done in record time so i could get down to the important business of brainstorming ideas for blogs and reviews with plenty of research and reminiscing about a lot of what i have got down on paper so to speak today. Racing sims today are a highly polished affair, slick controls, smooth as hell textures, fine detailing on the cars and the environments are just light years from the predecessors from years gone by, today we have the cherry on top with Grand Turismo and also others such as Project Cars, the F1 series, Forza and Need for Speed (underground 2, riders on the storm boys, riders on the storm), but for every finely polished current gen title racing sim there is a grandfather that has blazed the trail so that these games could exist. Today we look over and reminisce over some titles from the 80's and 90's, some may well still live in our mem...
