The Random game generator - Nintendo 64 version

 Happy weekend gamers.

I thoroughly enjoyed my delve into the archives last blog where we looked at Indiana Jones on the Amiga/Atari from the early 90's, very early in fact. Since then i have started a full play through to play it once again from start to finish.

This week venture has fast forwarded us in time, not by much but still within the realms of nostalgia gaming and definitely retro. Again using the random game generator website, Nintendo 64 and adventure were punched in and a total of 8 games were up for discussion. We had a few to choose from, some perhaps a bit too easy (Goldeneye, Zelda Majora's mask, Wave race 64, 1080 snowboarding and Starfox) all on their day worthy of discussion that's for sure and to be honest Goldeneye would perhaps be a 2 part offering such is the respect i hold for it, definitely a discussion for another day.

There was one game that stood out for me this time, mainly because most will know it but may have forgotten about it really, that was a first person shooter offering from two of our most famous cartoon creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, you have no doubt guessed it by now....South Park. Released in 1999 in Europe on the Nintendo 64, we found ourselves being able to chose from 1 of 4 protagonists those 4 obviously being Stan, Kyle, Cartman and everyone's favourite mumble king Kenny. It would be easy to start thinking negatively about this offering i mean it received a harsh bunch of scores by gaming writers and critics and first impressions to me back then at 17 years old, was that it felt light, and what i mean by that is the graphics felt lazy, and there were lots of open space, but the more i think about it now it matched the tv show for what it was at that time, i mean if we look at every animated series from mid to late 90's to now, even the beginning of the 90's with the Simpsons there has been a massive upgrade in amination tech and end product, so much so if we take South Parks most up to date offerings in the Stick of Truth and the Fractured But hole we see the difference, granted gaming tech is far greater but still.

So yeah playing as one of 4 of our residents of the sleepy town we battle through levels of those thanksgiving turkeys to cloned townsfolk all with the premise of a incoming comet to earth. The weapon and targeting system was definitely easy to use, the most basic weapon of choice being a snowball (or a yellow one for better damage 😂)

So yes to cut a long story short, clear levels use your array of humorous weaponry and save the day, all done with the quips that we are accustomed to from the tv show.

Our favourite foul mouth Eric Cartman

For honesty I never did own the game, one of those titles i rented from my local blockbuster (a simple time) Who didn't love Blockbuster. That last statement probably leads you to my opinion on the game....and you would be correct, I mean I was a fan of the TV show back then and to a point there is still a place in the modern world for the cartoon as the style of writing we get from Matt & Trey means it will always be topical as lets face it no one and no topic is safe really.

If you decide to play this you will definitely get a few laugh's from it, it may well stir up a few early South Park memories and emotions, will it be a staple in your gaming collection...perhaps not, unless its unsealed for appreciation related stuff.

I have this title on the retrogame box so for old time sake i may well boot it up for an hour and see how it holds up but id guess that would be about it. Not every offering will be a positive one i guess but the game served a purpose to me, i mean it made me reflect on what was going on in 1999 so not all bad.

As always if you enjoy the content please follow for future nostalgia related content

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend everyone and thank you for reading.

Straight to the Point......and click part 1

After a small hiatus from the blog we returned with our thoughts on something more modern with GTA V and its impending casino dlc, if Rockstar are to believed then i think this gamer will definitely take his Eleghy RH8 custom for a few spins around Los Santos for a few months more at least. I think the blog is going well i continue to have great ideas about what to write but struggle to find the time to commit to a schedule. The page has had nearly 6k views and the blogs don't seem to be doing to bad despite the lack of followers to the page itself. I have recently set up a Instagram page http://www.instagram.com/ragequiteretro  for the blog and a Pinterest page so i can share some of my favourite shots of games past and present, and as always i still have the page linked to my twitter  i use for my twitch, twitter.com/silverwarrior82 feel free to look me up and follow if you wish. Before i dip into the topic of the day i thought i would say a few things about myself, hopefully

5 Solid Mega Drive Titles (Feat why Fortnite is over rated)

New week new things to talk about. well not so much new as this is a retro gaming blog so old things to talk about I guess. Moving back from the opening blog on Broken Sword the time machine is going back again to an even simpler time in gaming, the late 80's and early 90's and for me this was when gaming really stating to come to the fore, we moved away from more keyboard based and we were introduced to the console, now I know consoles were around before this but the good old 8 bit Nintendo onwards is where things really started to go boom. I was never in one camp (Nintendo or Sega) I much preferred to be able to play both and at one stage or another in my youth owned one of the other and in later life with my  'ahem' unquestionable wealth I would have both. I sadly do not have a Sega product to my name at present, my retro console collection remains somewhat sparse (Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, Playstation 1 & 2) I do however like to use my

The Random game generator

For someone who had had the pleasure of gaming for more years than id care to admit, you get to playing a fair share of games across many platforms, so much so if this was a paying job i could sit and type reviews for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, but its not a paying job, its passion, its history, its nostalgia, my memories, our memories as gamers, a loading screen, intro music, that first glimpse of those 8/16 bit graphics and so on. I have recently stumbled across a very random website whereby i can type in a console/computer, even a genre of game and as many game as i want numerically and hit generate it boom up pops a list, and i thought to myself, this is good, this is great in fact, there are probably hundred of games I've completely forgotten about, i wonder if this is a way to delve into this gamers archive and see what initial memories are pulled out from it, review if from recollection as well as going back and having a go again to see how it measures up to those memories
